METEPENAGIAG HERITAGE PARK 

You will feel the authenticity of two significant National Historical Sites in New Brunswick; Metepenagiag Mi’kmaq Nation, invites you to experience and learn 3000 years of history and culture in the making.  We, the First Peoples of New Brunswick, will take you on a journey where you will view ancient artifacts, interactive displays, interpretative walking trails and 20-minute film in our 52-seat theatre. Also visit and shop for unique Indigenous art work in our Gift Shop.

HISTORIC BEAVERBROOK HOUSE

The Historic Beaverbrook House was built in 1877 as a home for renowned shipbuilder and merchant, William Watt. Lord Beaverbrook purchased the building from the St. James United Church and after renovating it; gave it to the Town of Newcastle as the area’s first Public Library. Contact to book the Beaverbrook Trail, a walking tour that encompasses his childhood home, his school, and so much more.

Middle Island Irish Historical Park

Awaiting you on the Island after crossing a short causeway is an Interpretive Centre, Captain's Galley Restaurant, walking trails, beach area, murals, picnic sites, bird watching, amphitheatre, kiosk, and memorial benches. Learn the history of why the Island was originally called “Hiksenogowakun” by the Mi’kmaq people meaning place of the sick.

MACDONALD FARM HISTORIC SITE 

MacDonald Farm, a provincial heritage place in Lower Newcastle overlooks the Miramichi River and is situated in a beautiful pastoral setting. To discover its secrets and appreciate the charming scenery, visitors can follow a winding trail that leads to the historic homestead. MacDonald Farm also has a gift shop with a large selection of Miramichi branded crafts and souvenirs.

DOAK HOUSE

The Doak Historic Site commemorates Scottish entrepreneur Robert Doak and his family who moved to the Upper Miramichi River area in the early 1820’s. Here he established a carding mill, a grist mill and a sawmill. Come visit our new welcome centre, a replica of Squire Doak’s original barn, featuring a gift shop and artifacts from the community.

Wilson’s Point Historic Site

Wilson’s Point Historic Site is a Provincial Historic Site with connections to the Mi’kmaq and Acadian people as well as our Scottish ancestors. Drop into the little church interpretive center, a replica of the original that once stood on the grounds from 1791 to 1832 and hear about the rich tumultuous history of how the Miramichi came to be. There is so much to explore with walking trails around the property and a newly installed wharf to access site by boat.

ATLANTIC SALMON MUSEUM

The Atlantic Salmon Museum provides an in-depth look at the Atlantic salmon and its importance to New Brunswick and to the world beyond. In addition to our displays of over 3000 artifacts, we offer a well-stocked gift shop and well cared for grounds with plenty of picnic tables.

CENTRAL NEW BRUNSWICK WOODMEN’S MUSEUM 

Fifteen acres of forest land immersed in lumbering legends, ghostly hauntings, folklore, and songs help you savor the stories of the “Canadian” lumberjack. Along with the stories of the camp cook, teamsters, loggers, lumbermen, stagecoach drive and the historic Whooper Train. Come by and you may meet our historic local characters on site.

W.S. Loggie House & Cultural Centre

This 18th-century unique Victorian home depicts the heritage and culture of the region. View artifacts from 1850 to 2000, including an original World War 1 Victory Flag. The house tells the story of the Loggie family, who were general local merchants of the time. Guided tours available by reservation.
